Horse Racing Betting Systems and 7 Simple Steps to Making a Profit and Improving Your Strike Rate
When it comes to Horse Racing there are a lot of deciding factors to make of whether or not a horse has the ability to win a race.
1. Look at the weight of the horse and look at the weight it was carrying last start. As a general rule if it has gone up or down by more than 2.5kgs I will cross it out and not bet on that horse.
2. Look at the pre post market price in the paper to see whether the overall market is supporting this horse to win. Anything over 10/1 I usually will cross out.
3. Look at the jockey who is riding the horse. I don't like to bet on apprentice jockeys especially if there are some really good jockeys in the race on horses with half a chance. The amount of times I have seen a horse with an apprentice jockey on it get run down in the last 100 metres is unbelievable.
4. Look at the horses recent form, especially the last 3 runs. Look at it and see if it is improving in form. I like a horse to have either won in its last 3 starts or to have 2 placings in its last 3 starts.
5. I generally will not bet on any horse that is coming back from a spell unless it has a top jockey on it and the horse has a history of winning first up from a spell. This is quite rare but there are some horses that come back fresh and can win first up especially over distances less than 1400 metres.
6. If there are 2 chances in a race I will usually back both of them as long as I can get odds of around 3-1 to make it worthwhile.
7. Usually when applying the rules above I will look at the top 4 lines in the betting market and make my selection out of those 4 horses.
I have had a lot of success over the years with horse racing as well as other gambling. I believe a lot of my success comes down to following a system and a staking plan. Systems by themselves I don't think really work to their full potential unless you use a staking plan with them. Any punter with a bit of experience knows that every system has a run of outs and you need a staking plan in place to ride out those bad runs until the wins and profits come back.
I much rather systems over tipsters as a system is a bunch of rules, there is no influence of other people in making your decisions. Tipsters can hear things about a certain horse being ready for a race and go with that and include it in their tips and overlook other factors like has the horse gone up or down in weight.
